This morning we got a ride over to Khlong Toei, a truly enormous market in town frequented by local restaurant owners picking up their meat and produce. It was a full-on immersion experience for sure. I think we were the only white people there! We got some basil pork on rice with a fried egg and ate it on some little plastic stools behind the guy’s stall, a tasty sesame donut, and a kabob of what may or may not have been pig eyeballs? Honestly, not sure, but it was pretty good! After we had our fill, we went over to an area of fancy shopping malls with food courts and great people-watching.

We took the train over to Wat Arun Ratchawararam, another ancient temple from a different time period, with its own style of incredible tile mosaic work. A quick ferry across the river took us back to the area near the palace, from which we walked back to the hotel to freshen up.

Rose booked us tickets for some Muay Thai fights at the big stadium in town, Rajadamnern. The stadium definitely catered to tourists, but the fights were cool to watch nonetheless! Afterwards, we took a ride over to the Ratchathewi neighborhood, known for its expat bars. We got some Thai folk music at the chill Raintree Pub and watched a friendly, perhaps very drunk, local dancing along. Then we walked over for a few more beers at Saxophone Pub and caught some high-energy jazz music in a packed house. All in all, it was an awesome day full of adventure.
